Net-zero emissions by 2050

Stitching Together A Cleaner Future

We’re investing in our Montreal thread manufacturing and dyeing operations to use fewer resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build a more efficient future for Canadian thread production.

One Project.
Measurable Impact.

Our dye plant accounts for approximately 91% of Cansew’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. That’s why we’re investing in a major modernization project to significantly reduce the energy, water, and emissions associated with how we make thread.

Project Reductions from Dye Plant Modernization*

🔥
60% Less Natural Gas (345,000 m³/year)
💧
55% Less Water (110,000 m³/year)
16% Less Electricity (2,400,000 kWh/year)
CO₂e
961 tCO₂e
Fewer GHG emissions
(645 tCO₂e/year)

with projected post-project performance.

How We’re Reducing Our Impact

⚙️

More Efficient Dyeing

New equipment uses significantly less water while reducing the natural gas required throughout the
dyeing process.

♻️

Recycling Water

Cooling water is captured and reused, reducing freshwater consumption and the need to repeatedly heat and
treat new water.

♨️

Recovering
Waste Heat

Energy that would otherwise be lost through wastewater is recovered and returned to the process, reducing demand
for natural gas.

💡

Improving Energy Efficiency

LED lighting and more efficient equipment reduce electricity use across the plant.

🛠️

Building for
the Future

Ongoing facility improvements are creating more efficient operations to better serve our customers as we grow.

Supporting Your Sustainability Goals

Reducing the environmental impact of our operations helps our customers build more responsible supply chains and work toward their own emissions reduction goals.

25%

Lower GHG Emissions Intensity by 2034

Reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per pound of thread produced by 25%, relative to our 2024 baseline.

Net-Zero by 2050

Our commitment to achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
